Freeride private lessons
The private freeride lessons of the Swiss Ski School of Champoussin allow you to practice off-piste skiing or snowboarding in a secure way off the marked slopes of the resort.
In the magnificent setting of the Portes du Soleil ski area, our experienced instructors will take you to discover the slopes covered with virgin powder snow. The relief offers many spots to perform all kinds of tricks.
To make the most of the course, a good level of skiing or snowboarding is required. To practice off-piste, an indispensable equipment is required.
In case of bad weather/snow conditions the private lesson can be cancelled.

- Priority on the Portes du Soleil ski lifts
- A video correction can be requested if several private lessons are booked (a good way to improve in freeride 🙂
TIME SCHEDULE
You can book a lesson from Monday to Sunday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm by 2 hours time slots minimum. The lessons take place as long as the ski lifts are open, regardless of the weather.

Practical info
to know
During private lessons you benefit from the priorities on the Portes du Soleil ski lifts. Possibility of course with video correction (on prior request).
SKI LIFT PASS:
For beginners, please ask our office for advice.
For families, we recommend the “Portes du Soleil families” packages.
To be able to get a ski pass, please visit the official Portes du Soleil website.
WEATHER/REFUND:
Our lessons take place in all weather. Please consult our general conditions in the event of cancellation or closure of the ski area.
INSURANCE:
Every person taking the SSS courses must have accident insurance valid in Switzerland.
PRACTICE FREERIDE (OFF-PISTE), SKIING OR SNOWBOARDING, IN COMPLETE SAFETY
Freeriding, the free winter sport par excellence, requires a good knowledge of the mountains, the weather and the peculiarities of the region, in order to practice off-piste in a safe and responsible way. Moreover, notions of first aid at altitude is a plus not to be neglected. Of course, survival equipment (DVA, shovel, probe, food and drink, airbag jacket, brightly colored clothes, small backpack, etc.) is strongly recommended.

The golden rules to prepare your off-piste day
The day before
- Ask about weather reports and consult topographical maps from mountain guides and hut wardens in the area.
- Prepare your itinerary:
- What is the level of difficulty?
- What is the duration?
- Is the itinerary known and listed on a map?
- What are the return alternatives?
- What are the weather conditions and forecasts?
- Choosing the right routes:
- Opt for an itinerary that corresponds to the level of the least experienced of the participants in the group.
- Prepare your equipment:
- Choose your equipment according to the difficulty of the terrain (walking shoes, a backpack, sweater, jacket, sunglasses, safety equipment, etc.).
- Take drinks and food.
Same day
- Before leaving:
- Observe the weather conditions.
- Inform nearby people and communicate the chosen itinerary as well as a cell phone number.
- In any case, adapt the race to the shape of the day of the participants.
- Respect the schedule:
- Respect the instructions of the guide and the instructor.
- Give up in case of doubt.
- Respect the fauna and flora:
- Never leave any material or waste in the nature.
- Safety first:
- Do not enter unknown terrain.
- In case of problems, ensure your own safety.
- In case of accident:
- Call Air Glaciers 1415 or 144.
A PERSONALIZED SUPERVISION WITH AN INSTRUCTOR OF THE SWISS SKI SCHOOL LES CROSETS
The SSS instructor will take advantage of this private freeride course to share his experience with adults and children and teach you more about the mountain and its dangers in winter. The following themes will be discussed throughout the day: how to ski while protecting yourself and others on and off-piste, what is the purpose and how to use an avalanche victim detector (DVA or ARVA), how to probe an avalanche to find victims, how to measure the difference in height of a slope to assess the danger and choose the right trajectory, the different qualities of snow (powder or not), discussion with the ski patrolmen of the resort about their job and the life of a rescue station, how to communicate with an injured person.
